Cat Garza, Megan Baehr, Colin Tedford and I dashed down to Easthampton, Mass. Saturday morning for the first annual Webcomics Weekend.

Despite some predictions of doom (will they let us in?), everything seemed to work out fine. We saw lots of old friends and met some new ones. Hopefully, by next year this event will blossom into a real Web comics convention and summit … Trees & Hills would have loved to get a table to sell our comics, but only a select handful of creators were allowed to this year. Still, it was great to peak into the western Massachusetts Web comics empire, all hunkered down in a gorgeous and inspiring old industrial building renovated into studio space.

The Trees & Hills comics group will appear at the following comic shows and conventions this spring and summer:

Nearly the entire Trees & Hills group will be at this indie-centric NYC show for the third year in a row. Debuting here will be a best-of collection of Trees & Hills comics stories and the big city debut of SEEDS.

Check it out - Greylock Arts of North Adams, MA has put up an online exhibit (with in-person viewing kiosks) of Hourly Comics made by Trees & Hills folk last year (which serves to remind us: Hourly Comics Day is coming, February 1!):

“Hourly Comics Day 2008: A group exhibition of Hourly Comics created by the Trees and Hills Comics Group on February 1st, 2008

Hourly Comic Day is an event where cartoonists from all over the world draw a journal comic for each hour they are awake. The guidelines are simple: “For every hour that you are awake on february first (that’s february first for whatever time zone you happen to be in), you make a comic describing something about the past hour. Maybe you ate some cereal? Maybe you used the restroom? Say you wake up at 7am. make a comic some time before it becomes 8am! then after 8am, make a comic before it becomes 9am!”

Colin Tedford and Daniel Barlow, co-founders of The Trees & Hills Comics Group put the word out to their group. Members of the Trees and Hills group took on the challenge of the hourly comic. This exhibit is a collection of some of the local comics created that day.

A kiosk for viewing both exhibitions will be available at MCLA Gallery51, 51 Main Street, North Adams MA. Gallery51 is open Monday-Sunday 10-5 pm.”

We sold out of the first printing of SEEDS this month, an amazing feat for a book that is less than three months old. The honor occured at the Stars & Skulls craft show, a fun annual DIY punk rock market in Hadley, Mass, on Sunday, Dec. 14.

A new printing of SEEDS is coming in January - don’t miss it this time!

Alison Bechdel came to Bear Pond Books in Montpelier, Vt. tonight as part of her tour for the THE ESSENTIAL DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR.

Of course, we gave her a copy of SEEDS.

She said she is working on a second memoir and joked that, “All I’m interested in writing about now is myself.”

Colin Tedford & possibly Daniel Barlow will be staffing the Trees & Hills table at the Stars & Skulls Craft Fair on Sunday 12/14 in Hadley, MA. Also present (at their own tables) will be T&H area cartoonists >Anne Thalheimer, E.J. Barnes, and Sam Leveillee.

Trees & Hills comics group co-founder Colin Tedford will be appearing at the BROKE Arts Festival this Saturday. Come and see him!

He’ll have copies of our latest anthologies SEEDS and SWINGIN’ HITS for sale, along with other homemade comics from across Vermont, New Hampshire and western Massachusetts.
